Have you ever wondered why the daytime sky looks blue? Sunlight may seem white, but it is actually 11 of many colors. As sunlight enters the air, tiny gas molecules scatter it in all directions. Blue light has shorter waves, so it is scattered much 12 than other colors. This is why blue seems to fill the whole sky. At sunset, however, the light must 13 through more air before reaching our eyes. Most of the blue is scattered away, so we 14 see warm reds and oranges instead. Understanding this simple science helps us 15 the beauty of nature every day.

When a bee discovers a rich field of flowers, it flies back to the hive and performs a special “dance.” The direction and speed of this dance tell the other bees exactly 16 the flowers are. Scientists were amazed to 17 that this simple movement carries so much information. Bees also use the position of the sun as a 18 to find their way home. The Deepest Place on Earth
Far beneath the Pacific Ocean lies the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point on our planet. At almost 11,000 meters down, it is deeper than Mount Everest is tall. The water there is freezing cold, and the pressure is strong enough to crush most machines.
For a long time, people thought nothing could live in such a dark, harsh place. Yet modern cameras have shown strange fish and tiny creatures moving along the sea floor. These discoveries remind us that life can survive in surprising conditions, and that much of the ocean is still waiting to be explored.
Students in the astronomy club made a simple chart to compare four planets in our solar system. Study the numbers below.
Planet
Moons
Day Length
Earth
1
24 hours
Mars
2
25 hours
Jupiter
95
10 hours
Venus
0
5,832 hours
As the chart shows, a “day” is very different from planet to planet. Jupiter spins the fastest, while Venus turns so slowly that one day there lasts months.
