Why Bees Matter

Bees may be small, but they play a huge role in nature. As they move from flower to flower collecting food, they carry pollen that helps plants produce fruits and seeds. In fact, about one-third of the food we eat depends on bees and other insects.

Sadly, bee numbers have been falling in recent years. Scientists believe that chemicals used on farms and the loss of wild flowers are two major causes. To help, some people plant flowers in their gardens and avoid using harmful sprays. Protecting bees is not only about saving insects — it is about protecting our own food supply.
