Passage 1
The Old Dresser
When my grandmother moved from Hualian to our house, she brought only one big (11) with her. It was old, and one of its legs was short, so it never stood straight on the carpet. My father wanted to throw it away. (12) She said her own mother had kept her letters and her wallet in it for forty years. (13), my father put a small piece of wood under the short leg and painted the whole thing white. Now it stands in the living room, (14) every visitor says it is the nicest item in our house.
My brother and I share a room that is only three (15) wide. There is one bed, one desk, and a bookcase that we made ourselves from an old box. Every item must have its own position, or we cannot walk to the door. (16) We agreed that he keeps the top shelf and I keep the bottom one. He is careful about his things, (17) I often leave my cup on the mat. Last week he did not blame me; he just put a small dish beside my bed for the cup. (18), sharing a small room has taught me more about people than any book.
Welcome to the Reading Room. Walk up to the second floor and turn left.
Take off your shoes before you walk on the mat.
Every book must go back to the same bookcase.
Food and drinks, even strawberry or melon juice, stay in the box beside the door.
The video corner is open only after four o'clock.
Students may move a chair, but the couch and the long desk must stay where they are. If you need a quiet position, the seats near the window are best.
Please do not leave anything, not even a pencil case, on the carpet. Anything left after six will be put in the cabinet near the toilet, and you will have to wait until Monday to get it back.
解析Students may move a chair, but the couch and the long desk must stay where they are。書櫃也未被允許移動。

✔ 正確答案:(A) It is put in the cabinet
中譯六點半留在地毯上的袋子會怎麼樣?

AHe must sit near the window
BThe room is closed then
CThe video corner is not open yet
DVideos are only for teachers
✔ 正確答案:(C) The video corner is not open yet
中譯學生想在三點看影片,問題是什麼?

EMAIL
A Gift from Canada
Dear Aunt Mary,
Thank you for the box you sent from Canada. The spoons arrived without a single mark on them, and Mother has already put them in the kitchen cabinet. She says they are too nice to use every day.
I have one question. Inside the box there was a small round thing with numbers on it, like a dial. Nobody here knows what it is for. Could you tell me how to use it? I have a photo, but I do not want to send a big photo if your line is slow.
We are all well. Father hurt his neck last month, but he can walk again now. Please come and stay with us when you visit Taiwan.
解析She says they are too nice to use every day,意思是太好了不適合天天用。
27Why might Amy not send the photo?

BHer aunt's line may be slow
CShe has lost it
DThe photo is not clear

Where Our Furniture Comes From
Look around your living room. The chair you sit on may have started as a tree in Australia, and the carpet under your feet may have come from a small town far away.
A hundred years ago, most families in Taiwan used furniture made in their own village. A bed or a bookcase was built by a person whose name everyone knew, and it was made to last for three or four families.
Today a chair costs less, but it often lasts only a few years. Some people now buy old furniture and fix it. They say that an old desk with a mark on it holds something a new one cannot: the story of the people who used it before.
