ARTICLE
Why We Still Need Teachers

Today a student can find almost any fact anywhere, on a phone, in a few seconds. Some people therefore guess that schools will soon close and that no one will need a teacher.

But a fact is not the same as an education. A machine can tell you the year of a war, yet it cannot see that you are afraid to speak, or notice that you have not eaten supper. A good teacher watches the person, not only the answer; that is the key to a real education, and no online course can do it alone.

Learning is also something we do together. In class we hear other students say things we never thought of, and we learn to listen even when we do not agree. That is a lesson no phone can deliver.

Questions 28–30
28What is the main idea of this article?
APhones give answers faster than teachers do
BSchools should stop using phones in class
CTeachers do things a machine cannot do
DStudents learn best when they study alone
29According to the writer, what can a teacher do that a machine cannot?
AGive the year of a war
BAnswer questions in a few seconds
CKeep a classroom quiet
DNotice how a student feels
30What does the writer say students learn from each other?
AHow to find facts quickly
BHow to speak louder than others
CHow to listen to different ideas
DHow to study without a teacher
